CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Campbell senior Michelle Case (Fort Mill, S.C.) has been named the CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, and Florida Gulf Coast freshman Megan Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) is the Women's Diver of the Week for meets contested Nov. 13-19, the CCSA announced Tuesday.
Case set several school records for the Camels over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Case swam a 23.28 in the 50 free finals to best her own school record set just last season. In the 100 free finals, Case posted a 50.98 to top her own school record by a full second. She also led off the 800 free relay with a split time of 1:51.42 (200 free) to claim a new program record. In the 400 free relay, Case, along with Hannah Kendall, Sarah Wilson and Sindija Silina, set a program record with a time of 3:25.89, finishing seventh in the event. Case, Megan Everitt, Taylore McMinn and Caroline Clark set a new school record in the 200 medley relay with a combined 1:42.87 to top the old record by two seconds. The Camels' 400 medley relay squad of Case, McMinn, Clark and Kamaria Mahone swam a 3:46.78 to top the previous school record by more than three seconds.
This past weekend was Wakefield's first platform event of the season where she dove her way to the third best score in FGCU history with a 178.35. She competed against divers from powerhouse schools such as Kentucky, Notre Dame, N.C. State.
Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Christina Kaas Elmgreen (FGCU), Lara Siebrecht (Gardner-Webb), Courtney Schaefer (Georgia Southern), Cassandra Phillips (Incarnate Word), Lindsey Cohee (Liberty), Francesca Vandersluis (North Florida) and Catherine Allen (UNC Asheville).
Also nominated for Diver of the Week: Savannah Meadows (Incarnate Word) and Jenna Joyal (Liberty).
