FGCU Earns 2017 CCSA Swimming & Diving Champions After Strong Week

Athens, Ga. (TheCCSA.com) – With 1,574.5 points, the Florida Gulf Coast women's swimming and diving team were named the 2017 CCSA Swimming and Diving Champions after dominating the championship the last four days.

Liberty finished the runner-up with 1,355 points, Gardner-Webb finished third with 851 points, and Georgia Southern finished fourth with 818.5 points. Incarnate Word claimed fifth place with 770.5 points, Campbell claimed sixth with 695.5 points, and UNC Asheville claimed seventh with 639 points. North Florida came in at eighth place with 405 points, Howard finished in ninth place with 245 points, and Virginia Military Institute finished the championship in tenth place with 114 points.

In the 1,650 free, Delia Weber from Liberty took first with a time of 16:40.72, followed by Gardner-Webb's Lauren Oglesby who finished second with a time of 16:50.80. Liz Zeiger from Florida Gulf Coast rounded out the top three with time of 16:58.50. Florida Gulf Coast's Doris Eichhorn tabbed first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.09, Liberty's Victoria Tschoke took second with a time of 1:58.14, and Sandra Wilk from Florida Gulf Coast took third with a time of 1:59.89.

Florida Gulf Coast swept the 100 free with Fanny Teijonsalo taking first with a time of 49.26. Hannah Burdge took second with a time of 49.48 and Katie Latham took third with a time of 49.94. In the 200 breaststroke, Sommer Harris from Florida Gulf Coast tabbed first with a time of 2:15.57. Liberty's Prudence Rooker finished second with a time of 2:16.24 and UNC Asheville's Morgan Rulevich finished third with a time of 2:17.07.

In the 200 fly, Alicia Finnigan from Liberty took first home with a time of 1:57.08, Christina Kaas Elmgreen from Florida Gulf Coast finished second with a time of 1:57.10, and Gardner-Webb's Tessa Walsh finished third with a time of 2:01.12. Florida Gulf Coast claimed first with a time of 3:17.83 in the 400 free relay. Liberty finished second with a time of 3:21.98 and Campbell finished third with a time of 3:26.64.

Liberty's Brittany Weiss took home Women's Most Outstanding Freshman Performer of the Championship award, while FGCU's Christina Kaas Elmgreen took home the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer.

FGCU's Ashley Wright took home the Diver of the Championship award.

First-year FGCU coach Dave Rollins was voted the 2016-17 CCSA Women's Diving Coach of the Year, while FGCU's David Boyko was named the 2016-17 Diving Coach of the Year.
