CCSA Announces Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week - Jan. 9

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – For the second time this season, Florida Atlantic freshman Will Smith (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has been named the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week for meets contested Jan. 1-7, the CCSA announced Tuesday. Teammate and fellow freshman Logan Downey (Plantation, Fla.) has been named the Men's Diver of the week, also for the second time this season.

Last week, Smith first swam against NJIT and William & Mary where he finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.25. He then placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:45.24. His scores helped the Owls to a victory over NJIT. Against Florida, Smith finished in third-place with a time of 4:41.81 in the 500-yard freestyle. Then in the 1000-yard freestyle, he secured second in 9:37.35. Smith finished the meet with a 4:15.86 in the 400-yard IM.

Downey captured two first-place finishes versus NJIT and William & Mary. In the 1-meter dive he scored 307.42, then in the 3-meter he posted a 273.22. He followed that up with two more top performances against Florida with a first-place finish and score of 304.05 in the 1-meter dive. Downey then finished second in the 3-meter with a score of 244.43.
