CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – Howard freshman Darrin Asphall (Houston, Texas) has been named the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week, and Florida Atlantic freshman Logan Downey (Plantation, Fla.) has been named the Men's Diver of the week for meets contested Nov. 13-19, the CCSA announced Tuesday.
Asphall's performance last Saturday vs Loyola was good enough to record two record setting performances. Not only did he become the fastest swimmer in HU history in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, but Asphall also took first place in both events against an opponent that has historically dominated the Bison. His 1000 time of 9:47.97 shattered the former HU record by over 10 seconds. Asphall also showcased his sprint ability, with his split of 21.72 to anchor 200-yard free relay team.
Downey placed first in two diving competitions last weekend during the Patriot Invitational, which included schools such as George Mason, Seton Hall and UNC Wilmington. He finished the 1-meter dive with a score of 315.0 and also recorded a 288.35 in the 3-meter event.
Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Calvin Lilo (Florida Atlantic), Peter Wakeley (Gardner-Webb), Kyrylo Shvets (Incarnate Word), Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos (NJIT) and Nick Wukovits (Old Dominion).
Also nominated for Diver of the Week: Dawson Martinez (Incarnate Word).
