CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.TheCCSA.com) – Florida Gulf Coast senior Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden) and teammate Cayla Collins (Largo, Fla.) have been named the CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week and Diver of the Week, respectively, for meets competed Jan. 26-Feb. 1, it was announced today.
Svensson picked up a crucial individual victory along with two significant contributions in relay wins -- including a pool record -- to help lead the way for the Green and Blue against Florida State. She won the 50-yard freestyle and qualified for an NCAA “B” Cut when she finished with a time of 22.83. Svensson followed that win with a clutch performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay when she anchored the team in its defeat of the Seminoles’ relay by one tenth of second with a time of 3:24.36. She gained the advantage in the race during the final leg when she swam a time of 49.24 in the event. Svensson guided the Eagles to a pool record at the FGCU Aquatics center during the 200-yard medley relay with an individual time of 23.10 and an overall time of 1:41.46. She also narrowly lost the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.40, just behind the winning mark of 49.52.
Collins led the charge on the 3-meter dive board with a second-place finish and a score of 290.32. She also finished in third-place on the 1-meter board with 278.62 points.
